How to set it up
The three ways of setting up the extender include:
- WPS method
This is the easiest method of setting up Linksys RE6800 extender and use the Wi-FiProtected Setup (WPS) on both the router and the extender. The first step is to plug your extender into a power outlet and turn in on. Next, locate and press the WPS button on the Linksys RE6800 extender. Now go to your Wi-Fi router, locate and press the WPS button on it too until the WPS LED turns into solid green. Once it turns, unplug the extender from the power outlet and place it anywhere within your house or office.
- Setup Wizard

Type extender.linksys.com in the address bar, if it doesn’t respond, then try resetting the extender and try again. When directed to the Linksys Extender setup screen, check the ‘I accept the end user license agreement’ check box and create an admin password to protect your extender. On the next screen, when prompted on how you would like to setup your range extender, accept and wait for it to scan all the available Wi-Fi networks in your area. From the list, select your main Wi-Fi network and key in the password. You will then see how your Extender will appear in your Wi-Fi list. Wait for at least 60 seconds for the Extender to connect to the router and then using the Spot Finder, you can find the best place to plug your Linksys RE6800 Extender in your house or office. To achieve best results, place the extender away from large appliances that might interfere with its signals.
- Manual setup
This is another way to set up your Linksys RE6800 Extender as Wi-Fi range extender. Firstly, plug in the Extender into a power source next to your router and switch it on. Connect the Linksys Extender to the router using an Ethernet cable. Switch on your wireless device such as your PC or smartphone and connect it to a working Wi-Fi network. Open a web browser on the wireless device and enter extender.linksys.com in the address bar. Hit enter and once the setup page appears, key in the default username and password and click the Log In button to proceed. On the next screen, follow the onscreen instructions in the exact order.
