Arlo vs. Ubiquiti: how do they compare?
Design
The Arlo Pro 3 does not only feature a sophisticated design but it also very easy to install. The camera features a simple but compact design making it easy to integrate with varied surfaces. The camera is a 2k HDR video enabled to provide users with the information that they need, to which end the users will get a 160° diagonal view. And for clear images especially when it is dark the camera has incorporated a spotlight complete with color night vision to represent images as they are.
Ubiquiti’s Unifi Video G3 camera is not very different from the Arlo Pro 3, especially in terms of installation. The Ubiquiti camera has a round like shape while Arlo’s is almost oval. The camera can be utilized either inside or outside the house. However, don’t expect to find the spotlight features in the Arlo camera for night vision. But you can expect a live stream from either an android or an ios based tablet or smartphone.
Image Quality
Unifi has incorporated some advanced technology features in its camera where users will be able to interact with an EFL 3.6mm f/1.8 lens for good quality vision. For image quality, the Unifi G3 camera offers up to 1080p HD resolution. The 1080 function is achieved by consolidating the whole frame in just one frame, so no splitting up, important to note is that to achieve the above the camera will require more computing power.
A 1080p camera can, therefore, be considered if you want to get sharper images. The 1080p can also be referred to as 2k, BT, FHD, or Full HD, the above are considered to be high definition modes with the characteristic 1920pixels that are normally displayed across the screen horizontally, while the 1080 pixels will be displayed vertically.
The image quality of the Arlo Pro 3 on the other hand, is 2k HDR, the latter means that the camera records up to 2,048 pixels without the vertical resolution, which makes the difference from the Unifi G3. We can, therefore, say that the Arlo pro3 is an upgrade from the Ubiquiti’s G3 because 2k offers a native resolution of up to 1440pixels vertically and 2560 pixels horizontally.
The above type of resolution is normally referred to as QHD simply because it offers up to 4 times the pixel, which then gives room for detailed recording. In short what we are saying is that when you try to zoom the Arlo Pro 3, which is a 2k video, you stand to access clear images, when compared to when you zoom a 1080p video represented by Ubiquiti’s G3.
And mind you the high resolution that you will get from the Arlo Pro 3 will not be affected even if the device that you are using is not a 2k and better yet is that it will look better than the 1080p. So if you plan on investing in the Arlo pro or are already using it, you are allowed to crop your videos without necessarily losing the HD resolution.
To which end, you will be able to digitally zoom and pan on the video, and increase the image color consequently leading to image sharpness, remember also that the above does not in any way compromise the quality of the video.
Viewing angle
Arlo’s pro 3 camera offers its users a 160° viewing angle thus allowing them to see everything that goes on in the installed position (diagonal field of view). Ubiquiti’s G3 on the other hand, has versatile mounting options, offering users aiming flexibility; the unit also has a variety of mounting options and can be easily mounted on a pole, ceiling, or wall.
The camera has also been equipped with an infrared range extender configured to extend the night’s vision range up to about 82ft. Installation of Arlo’s Pro 3 is also pretty easy given that you are not going to use any wires,
Other Features
Another equally significant and notable feature on the Arlo camera is the passive infrared motion sensor that when in use will record a video of the motion events and forward the notification directly to the user’s mobile device. Besides within the camera niche, Arlo has made it, its mission to cover all the gaps in the industry, and in a bid to penetrate a wider clientele it has introduced to the market variations of the device.
They have thus catered to families with toddlers by providing them with a baby monitoring camera that is also portable. And as the old adage goes, that change is the only constant thing, and to excel in any industry, you always have to stay on top by offering the most advanced products that provide solutions to user’s needs. To which end Arlo introduced its newest product the Arlo Ultra.
