What is Vtext message?

Text messages are one of the simplest and quickest means of communication. But what happens when say your phone battery is dead or the phone is broken and you need to send a message?

Messages are more personal and easier to express yourself through compared to phone calls. On average, over 6 billion messages and 200 billion emails are shared every day. We can’t imagine not being able to communicate with others since we are always on phone with thousands of apps. But what if you couldn’t access your phone and need to send a message? As long as you have access to a PC or tablet, then this is where Vtext message comes in?

Vtext message is a messaging service from Verizon Wireless that allows you to send and receive messages to both a Verizon Wireless and non-Verizon phone number from your email using an internet connection.

Despite SMS and emails using different communication protocols, Vtext allows you to use your email program to send a text message to someone’s phone number. For example, if you want to send a quick message to a family/friend but don’t want to talk to them, then you can simply send them a message via email like Gmail. Vtext works similarly to a regular text and is limited to 160 characters like a text message.

How to use Vtext to a Verizon number

Log into your email program like Gmail and click on the ‘Compose’ button then compose a message normally. In the address field, enter the recipient’s ten-digit phone number without hyphens and end the number with ‘@vtext.com’. For example, if the person you want to send the message to number is 222-555-777, then in the address email, enter 2225557777@vtext.com. On the subject field, you can put the subject or leave it blank since anything you write in the field will be included in the 160 characters. In the email body, write your message and then click on the Send button as you normally would with a regular email.

How to send a Vtext to non-Verizon phone numbers

If you want to send or receive texts to a non-Verizon phone number, instead of adding ‘@vtext.com’ at the end of the number, add the network’s name. For T-Mobile, add @tmomail.net, for AT&T, add @txt.att.net and finally for Sprint, add ‘messaging.spintpcs.com’. For other cellular service providers, click on this link and check your phone company’s extension.

What other tools can I use?

Using Message+

Another method to send a Vtext message is by using Verizon’s Messages called Message+ app. The app allows you to sync your texts across all your devices compatible with the app. To download the app, you won’t incur any charges nor any recurring subscription fee. The messages that you send or receive on the app over a WiFi network or the Verizon network will add to your smartphone messaging plan. Besides the app, you can use the web portal or desktop app on your PC.

Verizon Online tool
