Design

When it comes to the TP Link AC1750, it uses a dual band setup with a CPU of 720MHz power. Measuring 9.6 x 6.4 x 1.3 inches, its rear is home to a Gigabit WAN port, three adjustable antennas (all removable), two USB activity LED lights, a WPS/Reset switch, an On/Off button, and an On/Off switch for Wi-Fi. Its front part has a WAN port, LED power indicators, four LAN ports, and WPS activity.

Its web console is something else though. It is the text-based, older version of the older TP Link Archer C7, and it will lack the elements that improve the user-friendly graphics you will find in newer TP Link routers, and it will experience lags between the point you make a change and the saving of that settings.

On the other hand, the Linksys AC1750 maintains a similar appearance to the other top consumer router, the Linksys EA4500. It comes in form of an attractive black casing, with an overlay of decorative metallic sheen. The Linksys logo on here also has a soft white glow and will serve as the main LED light for the router to indicate its status – an example being the logo blinking when you are initiating a WPS connection.

Like the TP Link AC1750, it is also a dual-band router. The speeds to expect from here are 450 Mbps when using the 2.4GHz band, and 1300 Mbps when using the 5GHz band. In its interior section, there are 6 antennas that has a transmit/receive setup of 3×3 for both bands. However, you will require a 3×3 wireless adapter if you want to make the most out of it.

Its rear panel can accommodate a WAN port, four gigabit LAN ports, two USB 2.0 ports, a WPS button am a recessed reset button.

Performance

The performance results fromthe TP Link AC1750 were impressive. It gave a speed score of 91.3 Mbps when you use the 2.4GHz band in close proximity, which is quite high compared to other budget routers. The speed at 30 feet was 62.8 Mbps as well, which is a clear domination of the competition of similar routers.

This advantage does not just apply to the 2.4GHz band though, as the 5GHz band is just as impressive – especially for a budget router. It had a very high speed score of 509 Mbps, and a distance of 30 feet results in a speed of 250 Mbps.

In terms of the TP Link CA1750 file transfer speed, our research reveals middling speeds, which is quite disappointing compared to the throughput it offers – it has a transfer speed of 21.5 Mbps, and its read test is a slow 27.5 Mbps.Overall, it does deliver good performance that is enough for a regular home, as long as you do not have lofty speed goals.

When it comes to the Linksys AC1750, we did the testing through connecting one machine using Ethernet to a wireless adapter. The results from our research revealed that the Linksys achieved the highest throughput of any router we have handled, cranking out a speed of 192 Mbps at a distance of 5 feet when you use the 5GHz band. However, the speed is not constant, especially when you move at further distances from the router – for instance, we noted that the speed reduced to 153 Mbps when we were at a distance of 30 feet.

Note that this is the only router we see where we can test the 5GHz band in 11ac-only mode. In other routers, including the TP Link AC1750, you will need to test the speed using a combination of 802.11n and 11ac when you use the 5GHz band.

In the case of the 2.4GHz band, it does not meet the high expectations. Its maximum speed is only 50 Mbps at 15 feet, and the average throughput is a mere 51 Mbps.

Setup

The installation process of the TP Link AC1750 was quite easy, which is quite advantageous. After you complete connecting it to your laptop or desktop PC and the internet, you power it, go to the browser and type in https://tplinkwifi.net. This brings up the setup page, where you select the Quick Setup tab and select Auto Detect. The console then finds your connection and asks whether you want to operate a single band setup (where you either use 2.4GHz or 5GHz band) or you want a concurrent setup (where you run both bands at the same time).

For the case of the Linksys AC1750 router, you will notice that the router will ship alongside a CD that contains the setup software. The setup is quite simple, as the only thing you need is to insert the CD, let it auto-run, and then click on the link that leads you to the setup of the router. If you have the knowledge of networking, you can also manually setup the router through connection to broadband connections and PC, then using it to access the local interface.

The setup is made easier through the graphical tutorial, which will show you how to connect cables correctly. However,if you are a person that likes controlling the devices you use for a specific band, you will need to take extra steps to do as manually as the automatic configuration will not allow for that. The entire process takes five minutes at most, and this is quite the advantage as very few routers will make this setup so easy.
