The D-Link DIR-X1560 supports the 802.11 ax (Wi-Fi 6) standard which provides you with faster network speeds, greater capacity for your network and less congestion on your connection log. It is a dual-band router with up to 4 simultaneous streams which makes online gaming, video chatting and 4K video streaming hassle free. Aside from that, it delivers throughput speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps to your connected devices.
It is featured with OFDMA and MU-MIMO Wi-Fi technologies which communicate more data to more devices simultaneously which significantly reduces latency. When it comes to connectivity options, it has been fitted with four Gigabit LAN ports and a single Gigabit Ethernet WAN port which allow you to establish wired connections with your devices. Advantageously, it is backwards compatible which means that it ensures support for all Wi-Fi devices and previous Wi-Fi standards.
To provide you with a secure network in your home, the DIR-X1560 router supports the latest 128-bit Wi-Fi encryption standard , that is, the WPA3 security protocol. It has additional features such as Intelligent Quality of Service which prioritizes network traffic so as to minimize the impact of strenuous bandwidth and Target Wake Time technology which increases the battery life of your connected devices.
Also, it works with the D-Link Wi-Fi app so that you can easily set up and configure your router. It also features enhanced parental control for further security of your network. It is compatible with the Google Assistant and Alexa which allows you to control your network through voice control which makes your Wi-Fi networking experience way easier.
On the negative side, it has poor performance on the 2.4 GHz band so your low bandwidth activities may experience a certain level of slow loading and lag-filled transfers. Also, it does not come with multi-gig LAN ports so it does not support Link Aggregation that would have otherwise increased its efficiency. It does not have any ant-malware protection and it lacks 160 MHz support which is seen in many Wi-Fi 6 routers.
What we liked;
- Exceptional 5GHz performance
- Easy to setup and configure
- Capable of forming a seamless mesh network
- Compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant
- Provides a secure network
What we didn’t like;
- Poor 2.4 GHz performance
- No multi-gig network port
- No anti-malware protection

D-Link DIR-X1560 Features
Design and Structure
Having its size dimensions at 5.38 x 9.69 x 2.13 inches and its weight at 1.00 lbs, the D-Link DIR-X1560 is an average-sized router with a simplistic desk top router design and a rectangular shape. It features four non-removable antennas towards the side and the back which you can adjust to an angle of 45° towards the direction that you would want to direct your Wi-Fi signal to. Additionally, it is fitted with four LED indicators whose behavior indicate the power status of your router, the status of your internet connection and the activity of both radio bands.
Towards the back, it is fitted with one WAN port and four Gigabit LAN ports. Also, it has a WPS button, a reset button and a power button. Unfortunately, it does not come with link aggregation, multi-gig network ports or even a USB port which limits its connectivity abilities.
Speed and Performance
The D-Link DIR-X1560 Wi-Fi 6 router is set to operate using a 1.5 GHz tri-core processor and it is equipped with 256 megabytes of RAM and 128 MB of flash memory. It is a dual-band AX1500 router that is able to deliver throughput speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps. The bandwidth speeds are distributed as 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz band. This means that you can work through your high bandwidth activities seamlessly but you may notice a level of dulling performance on your low bandwidth activities. At the same time, it does not have simultaneous dual band operation which may affect the efficiency in the 2.4 GHz band. For further efficiency however, you are able to configure your DIR-X1560 router by enabling Smart Connect which allows to choose the best available radio band for your devices.
In addition to that, it has been designed to utilize Wi-Fi 6 technology such as MU-MIMO data streaming which allows your DIR-X1560 router with multiple connected devices simultaneously, beamforming which directs the Wi-Fi signal directly to your devices, 1024 QAM and Target Wake Time. Compared to other high performing Wi-Fi 6 routers, the DIR-X1560 lacks support for the 160 MHz channel bandwidth.
Security and Network Control
The WPA3 security protocol which ensure 128-bit encryption, provides you with a secure network. Aside from that, when using the DIR-X1560 router, you are able to combine it with D-Link’s range extenders that are mesh enabled so that you can create a network that allows you to use a single SSID for hassle-free roaming throughout your house.
With the parent control feature, the most you can do is block websites and schedule device time on the internet but you cannot access advanced features such as age restriction. Unfortunately, it does not provide you with malware protection for your devices but a highlight for it is its compatibility with Google Assistant and Alexa that allows you to voice control your network. Moreover, with the D-Link Wi-Fi app you are able to comfortably monitor and manage your home network.
