Cisco 3750G vs. Cisco 3750- Which generation of 3750 Switches is better

The Cisco 3750 is part of an elite group of networking switching solutions, but can the original generation Cisco 370 switches surpass the improved Cisco 3750G?

Cisco is a well known manufacture of telecommunication devices and other networking devices. Among their most popular ones are the Cisco Switches. All of these are organized in their respective product families. The Cisco 3750, is one of the innovative members designed to deliver great stacking technology with provisions for a unified and resilient networking operation.

Take a look as we review two of the product lines well known product sees: the 3750G and the original 3750 Series.

Cisco 3750G vs. Cisco 3750- How these two compare

Design

One of the major differences between the Cisco 3750 and the 3750G is the design. A WLAN controller is integrated into the 3750G design which allows centralized capabilities on the 3750G. With these, the 3750G features more access to Layer 3 functions.

Port speed

The 3750G features Gigabit ports, for this reason, the series is called the 3750G. This is a major transition from the 10/100 fast Ethernet ports available on the 3750 collection. Granted there are provisions for gigabit uplinks on the 3750, these older generation models cannot beat the all gigabit port 3750G series.

Gigabit connectivity ports on these models allow for faster connection on the 3750G models compared to the 3750.

Stacking

Stacking on these models is pretty much the same with the help of Cisco Stackwise technology. This tech allows users to stack up to 9 members from the 3570 and 3750G collection. With this stacking feature, users can build a functional units for easy use and management over one plane.

Redundancy and power supply

Once more, both the 3750 and 3750G share the same power supply design. They are modeled with internal fans and a single power supply option. These do not offer as much redundancy on the network as removable fans, or a second power supply option included on the newer 3750X generation. Even so, both the 3750 and 3750G do their due diligence in ensuring the network stays up as needed.

Cisco 3750G vs. Cisco 3750- A comparison review

Cisco 3750G

Part of the 3750 Cisco line of Switches, 3750G devices are well built to provide users excellent performance on enterprise level networks. The collection features stackable switches with a wide range of capabilities.

Features

Among the more unique features is the integrated WLAN controller. The 3750G design houses combines the benefits of Wireless LAN controllers onto its Switching solution for improved operational efficiency. There are any other benefits which accompany this integration including overall improvement in security, mobility and ease of use. With the WLAN, centralized capabilities with Layer 3 roaming, and more advanced features become accessible. It is the ultimate solution for necessary scalability in traditionally wired networks. Using the 3750G, managers can access great security with improved network redundancy and reliability.

Connectivity and configuration on 3750G models relies on both Fast Ethernet 10/100, and Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/100 ports. The more recent 12 port GE switch on this collection is designed for SFP based functionality.

This collection is great for users with high speed needs within the network. Desktop connectivity or even small business servers are among some of the best deployment options available to users with the Cisco 3750G switches.

WS-C3750G-24TS

The Cisco WS-C3750G-24TS is a 24 port option that supports both POE and UPOE. It supports efficient energy consumption with frameworks such as the energy efficient Ethernet which ensure optimal consumption. It is well suited for both standalone and connection services, with the model designed to integrate with other compatible switches seamlessly.
